Food for Thought

YIKES! I think I may be a reader in the making. I've always wished I was a reader. But, reality is, I'm just not one. But, that may be a thing of the past. I think I was turned off from reading when I was forced by my high school English teachers to read boring, stupid, uninteresting-to-me books. However, I just finished reading a book that Esteban and Danielle lent me ("The Martyr's Song"). As soon as I finished it, I picked up and read the first chapter of "Having a Mary Heart in a Martha World". Although Katie lent it to me about a month ago, I am just now getting to it. Okay, so in reading this first chapter, I've already come across several powerful thoughts. So, I figured I share some with you all, over the course of time it takes me to finish the book. In fact, I might have to go buy my own copy of this book, so I can highlight and underline all the poignant thoughts I discover.

Here's the first excerpt I thought I'd share....one of many to come:
"In her eagerness to serve Jesus, she almost missed the opportunity to know Jesus. ... While the world applauds achievement, God desires companionship. The world clamors, 'Do more! Be all that you can be!' But our Father whispers, 'Be still and know that I am God.'"
**Forgive me if I didn't cite or underline or quote everything correctly. I'm sure Jana and/or Katie can let me know where I cited things incorrectly. It has been a while since I've had to cite sources in MLA format.**

So what exactly was it about that quote that struck you? You didn't really say in the post. Just curious.

What a great quote! It is something I can definitely relate to, being in full time ministry. Sometimes it's easy to look at it as a "job," which totally alters my attitude toward others and Christ. I'm always needing the reminder to pull back and just let God lead. Thanks for sharing.

Oh yeah, and don't worry, I'm not in the habit of correcting others' grammar and punctuation ;) half the time I let mine slide! It's only when I'm in teacher-mode that it comes out (and since I "retired" from that, I've become a slacker!) ;)
